Newt-rition 101: Chicken Soup Variation # 42

Since we’ve been getting so many inquiries of late on Newt Food, thought I’d start sharing some pictures of his menu. This is a sample of one of the many variations on his “Chicken Soup.”

General Recipe is to:

  • Gather whichever veggies you plan to use
  • Puree them in the food processor or blender, or chop very finely
  • Add three parts veggie puree
  • Add one part pureed protein source (chicken, in this case)
  • Splash some extra water and/or cream to make it more watery
  • Optional – warm slightly
  • Stir well
  • Serve with Love

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Lisa! It looks darn tasty; I would even eat it! 😉

Do you supplement Newt’s diet with any vitamins/minerals? Just curious. I recall reading years ago that they need Taurine which is not found in tuna and that’s why you should not feed that as their main diet. Wasn’t sure if that is an issue for your homemade diet or not.

  2. We’ve discussed this with his vet, and it is an option we do want to incorporate soon. He just got so funny the last few times we tried supplements, well, you know how it is, you hate to change the things that are working!

  3. We have decided to try and make Tim his meals rather than using the prescription diet as he hates it and it’s getting difficult to get him to eat it.
Thanks for posting this recipe. Any other advice, tips, or suggestions to making our own cat food?

  4. Several members of Newt’s support group have had excellent results with a variety of foods – everything from home-cooked, to commercial brands, to different types of “enhancers” on the prescription food.

Remind me, did I send you the invitation to join the group? If not, please forgive me and let me know – I’ll send the personal invite ASAP. It’s been wonderful to see what works / does not work for the individual kitties.

This post might give you another idea of what we feed Newt:
